Dr. Michelle Sexton, ND

Presentation Description:
Endocannabinoids, the natural cannabis-like molecules made by the human body, has been the main topic of research for many years. The endocannabinoid system helps the body maintain homeostasis and is involved in many processes such as pain, appetite, mood, stress, memory, sleep, immune function, metabolism, and many others. The endocannabinoid system has previously been believed to only be present in the brain and in nerves, but current research shows that receptors are present throughout the  body. In this presentation, Dr. Sexton will describe the endocannabinoid system, its functions and physiology, the pharmacology of endogenous and plant cannabinoids, and how the system functions in chronic health. After this presentation, attendees will be able to understand how to modulate this system with diet and lifestyle and educate patients on how supplements can impact this system, through an evidence based approach.
