Presentation Description:
The endocannabinoid system is a complex biochemical system. It is important to understand the pharmacology of endogenous and plant cannabinoids as well as how agonists and antagonists to this system affect health and disease when treating chronic disease. This webinar will discuss how practitioners can help their patients make informed decisions on how to incorporate supplementation, diet, and lifestyle to modulate the endocannabinoid system.
 
 
Goals and Objectives:
1. Describe the endocannabinoid system.
2. Understand the pharmacology of endogenous and plant cannabinoids.
3. Address endocannabinoid system function in chronic disease.
4.  Be prepared to educate patients on the impact of supplements on this system.
5.  Understand how to modulate the endocannabinoid system with diet and lifestyle.

 
Brief Biography:
Dr. Sexton is Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of California San Diego. She earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University in Seattle Washington, 2008. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in the Departments of Pharmacology/Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Her NIH-funded pre-doctoral and postdoctoral research on the topic of cannabinoids and their roles in neuro-inflammation and neuro-degeneration, investigated cannabis use and in patients with Multiple Sclerosis and impact on inflammatory markers. Dr. Sexton has presented her research internationally and published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Sexton’s clinical practice, research and teaching focus on the endocannabinoid system and potential roles for cannabis across a range of conditions and lifespan. She is a member of the International Cannabinoid Research Society, the International Association of Cannabinoid Medicine and the Society of Cannabis Clinicians. She maintains a small medical practice in San Diego, CA.
