ABOUT THIS SONG Attributed to Nelson Mandela in his Inaugural Address, this idea that we are Born to Manifest the Glory, is actually penned by author, Marianne Williamson, Here it is... Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others. —Marianne Williamson My song was inspired by it. I fed it the dynamic that I and many others go through in waking up to the Truth of Our Being, the remembering followed by the doubting. Realizing a new thought that stirs us deeply only to have a knee jerk pull to return to the same old behavior patterns. It is a roller coaster for awhile indeed. The most powerful place in the song is the bridge towards the end where it lifts in a key change to challenge us to finally show up in the I AM frequency that we are. I love singing this song. It is moody and pierces the resistance of anyone who hears it, steering them directly into the personal place that remembers who they are...even if only for the duration of the song. And, yes, it was written for a Sunday talk that was aligned with Marianne's speech. I met her earlier, pitching a song to support the Healing of America book she was pushing. I gave her the lyrics and a recording of the song in hopes that she would see the vision and invite me to accompany her. She left the recording and the lyrics in the back of the limo. Disappointing, yes...but several years later I still used her words, with honor, to create Born to Manifest the Glory...I am Divine, sometimes I show it, God I Am, sometimes I know it... |
