ABOUT THIS SONG It was towards the end of my public school teaching career when I was invited to be the featured teacher at an alternative peace school in Templeton, California. I was to facilitate a mixed age classroom with the basics and whatever else I would bring. It became quickly obvious that we had a bunch of singers who were very interested in performance. So I started writing conscious musicals. In our second musical we were focusing on world peace so I borrowed styles from all over. Simple Living has an African feel and involves a counterpoint chant that interchanges with male and female voices. It is fun and very life affirming reminding us of being conscious with enjoying life, its glorious simplicity. This song has been a staple since 1990 with all levels of youth programs and even church sing alongs. |
SONG LYRICS: SIMPLE LIVING
Toomba pa toomba pa troomba Ba wayo... Simple, simple living Makes the world go ‘round The people live in peace We don’t need much To live and be happy in the world It seems the less we have The more we breathe the beauty of the world Walk lightly on the earth © 1988.
