ABOUT THIS SONG Please refer to the narrative on the song, Take Me Home, for the back story. This is the second song I wrote for that artist who came and went way back in 94. The intimacy of the first song had fallen on deaf ears. She wanted something a little more peppy...so, I gave it to her. A bouncy little song that celebrated friendship, and spelled out the connection I thought we had. Well, we didn't...and this song had no more success that the previous one in meeting my intention to convince her to stay. Historically, such efforts are rarely met with success. And now, you can add me to that reliable statistic. I mean I tried...and know that we are winding on a journey with no end...so hello, hello my friend...wow, who could resist that one...Jamie could..and did. I'm not really a begging man, nor am I typically desperate. This was a vulnerable time, and the post marriage tenderness I was getting for awhile was very special and very appreciated. But, be that as it may...I was left with a couple of decent songs that address moments of life, themes that wind in and out of the lives of us all at one time or another. Just thought you might want to see how I dealt with the whole thing musically...which is how I typically do it...returning to that consistent reliable inner mistress/muse that will always be there...and, yes, I know her very well...apparently she has some issues about being replaced... |
SONG LYRICS: HELLO, MY FRIEND On the day I met you, Jamie I heard a distant drum A Fallish breeze blew Through my heart I knew the change would come There was something in your eyes That said you’ll come to see yourself All the games that had defined me Were headed for the shelf Just like a Summer’s day You warmed me up You walked me to the dawn Then stood aside released my hand You pointed far beyond To where the bear had Cleared the forest The wolf was at the pass White herons circled overhead I felt a calm at last Now I can say I love you Now I can call you friend And know that we are winding On a journey with no end So hello, hello, my friend You teach me of the boundaries I teach you of the no You teach me of consistency I teach you love can grow We’re a man and woman flowing In an archetypal dance A blending of the Muses Approaching resonance Now I can say I love you Now I can call you friend And know that we are winding On a journey with no end So hello, hello, my friend ©1996.Music for Every Soul.
