Originally Presented: Feb. 2026

🌟 Attendee Feedback:

Dr. Janel is so knowledgeable about the topic and extremely clear. Her presentation was actually the first time I have ever heard someone go into such detail about the specifics of each part of the digestive system and it was so helpful! Her presentations are also always so practical and useful in practice.

Presentation description:

This presentation will focus on the foundational principle of treating the patient, not just the test, by outlining the key symptoms for a comprehensive GI history and their correlation to treatable causes. We'll explore successful cases from my practice (national and international) demonstrating effective treatment of diverse digestive disorders.

A critical review of diagnostic tools will cover SIBO testing—when to pursue it—as well as the limitations, benefits, and outcomes of stool testing, including various parasite testing options. We'll also examine the limitations, benefits, and best practices for food testing.

Finally, the presentation will delve into novel treatment approaches for IBS/SIBO aimed at permanent symptom resolution, review treatment options/diet and management for Acute Diverticular Disease, and explore effective treatment options for managing GERD and associated symptoms.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Use systematic, symptom guidelines to focus diagnostic and treatment choices
  • Differentiate food or overgrowth as a root cause of inflammation
  • Understand the impact of inflammatory foods on permanent digestive recovery
  • How to expand patients off nutrient restrictive diets once GI symptoms have resolved.
  • How to correlate GI symptoms to treatable causes (diet, overgrowth, dysbiosis)
