Naturopathic Treatment Pearls for Cancer Survivorship: Moving Survivors to Thrivers
with Dr. Lise Alschuler, ND and Dr. Tina Kaczor, ND
Continuing Education Credits
2.5 hours of general CE credits for California Naturopathic Doctors

Mac Users: The first 2.5 minutes is black screen (introductions only).

Course Overview:

All healthcare practitioners, regardless of clinical emphasis, are likely to have cancer survivors in their practice – it is reported that within the next decade, there will be more than 18 million cancer survivors in the United States. Naturopathic doctors are uniquely positioned to guide this population to optimal health using their knowledge of preventive medicine, nutritional counseling and natural medicine. This presentation will review the fundamentals for supporting key pathways for optimal wellness for cancer survivors. Specifically, we will present evidence-informed, oncology-specific strategies to address common after-effects of conventional treatment such as fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, chemobrain and insomnia. Finally, the talk will include an overview of key nutrient indications and contraindications that are important to manage for cancer survivors.

Attend this presentation to confidently:

  • Gain familiarity with the magnitude of cancer survivors, their predominant needs and the role of the naturopathic doctor in meeting these needs.
  • Understand how to treat the main side-effects of conventional treatment including fatigue, insomnia, “chemobrain” and peripheral neuropathy.
  • Identify specific, evidence-based cancer risk reduction strategies that address carcinogenic influences including insulin resistance, sedentarism, oxidative stress, abnormal signal transduction, abnormal methylation and impaired immunity.
  • Prescribe nutrients and natural medicines specific to cancer survivorship.
  • Explore an overall strategy to transform survivors into thrivers.

Participant Feedback:
  • Practical application and robust evidence.
  • Really enjoyed the breakdown of symptoms thrivers are still left with and very specific treatments for each one.
  • Great information for the non-oncologist ND!
  • Tools we can use right away in our practice!
  • Excellent!!!
