Course Overview
Cancer is fundamentally a metabolic disease. There is a great deal of controversy regarding which diets and foods should and should not be recommended to cancer patients and cancer survivors. In this presentation, we will review the science behind dietary approaches that influence cancer metabolism and the tumor microenvironment. Among the diets that we will review include the ketogenic, low carbohydrate, methionine restricted diets and intermittent fasting. We will examine the relationship between food, epigenetic signaling and the tumor microenvironment. Finally, we will explore the rationale for selecting therapeutic diets for unique individual cancer patients including how to maintain caloric and nutrient repletion in cancer patients and how to select therapeutic diets for special needs cancer patients and cancer survivors.
