Course Overview
Dementia is a disorder that is characterized by a decline in cognition involving one or more cognitive domains (learning and memory, language, executive function, complex attention, perceptual-motor, social cognition).
It is estimated that 44 million people worldwide have dementia, but only 1 in 4 have been diagnosed. They are a top cause for disabilities later in life and in 2016, 15.9 million family caregivers provided an estimated 18.2 billion hours and $230 billion. In 2017, Alzheimer’s cost the United States $259 billion.
Pathology and risk factors are fairly well understood, but yet conventional interventions continually fail. Ergo, prevention and a comprehensive integrative medical approach has been proven to provide the best outcomes and quality of life, for both the suffering patient and their families.
This presentation will thoroughly review evidence and clinical based diagnoses, integrative treatment strategies and interventions to improve patient outcomes.
After the presentation, participants will be able to confidently:
Understand the terminology behind the signs and symptoms and types of dementia.
Understand the statistics and pathogenesis of dementia.
Understand the risk factors, proposed etiologies, and genetics of dementia.
Understand how to diagnose and prevent dementia especially in at risk patients.
Utilize evidence and clinically based interventions including lifestyle, dietary, homeopathic, botanical, nutrient, and hormones to improve patient outcomes.
