PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION:

In this presentation, we will explore the pivotal role of nutrition in both the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). We'll delve into the efficacy of various dietary patterns, with a focus on evidence-based approaches like intermittent fasting, low-carb, and ketogenic diets. The discussion will also include an analysis of landmark studies such as the PREDIMED and CORDIOPREV trials, and a detailed look at specific dietary components like polyunsaturated fatty acids, saturated fats, and the role of fish and vegetables in CVD prevention.

Crucially, our exploration will extend to traditional diets, examining how they can be adapted and tailored to respect and integrate cultural identities, enhancing the relevance and effectiveness of nutritional recommendations for a diverse patient base. This comprehensive review aims to bridge the gap between clinical literature and patient-specific preferences, histories, and cultural backgrounds, providing a well-rounded perspective on nutrition as a key factor in the fight against cardiovascular disease.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1.   Describe and name dietary approaches for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease

2.   Speak to our current understandings around popular dietary trends and their efficacy in cardiovascular disease.

3. Bridge the nutrition research with real world realities and different cultural and food backgrounds.
