An Integrative Approach to Inflammatory Bowel Disease:
Patient Co-Management Principles and Strategies for the Naturopathic Doctor

with Dr. Gary Weiner, ND
Continuing Education Credits
2.0 hours of general CE credits for California Naturopathic Doctors (.5 pharmacy CEs)

Course Overview:
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal disease burdens in the U.S. with an overall health care cost of more than $1.7 billion, according to the Center for Disease Control. It is a chronic condition with no medical cure and often requires a lifetime of care, accounting for more than 700,000 physician visits and 100,000 hospitalizations annually. The treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains challenging for any physician.   However the naturopathic doctor is well trained to contribute the necessary integration of therapies for optimal care of many IBD patients. In this webinar, Dr. Weiner will describe integration of pharmacologic agents, dietary strategies, evidence-based naturopathic therapeutics, and the cooperation of gastroenterologists and naturopathic doctors performing together on behalf of the patients' best interests.

Attend this presentation to confidently:

  • Learn key strategies in integrating pharmacologic and evidence-based natural therapies to manage IBD.
  • Understand the obstacles to remission in IBD and the evidence based integrative strategies that are most effective in removing them.
  • Learn the key drugs used to treat IBD in a conventional setting.
  • Prescribe evidence-based nutritional therapies and natural medicines for the treatment of dysbiosis and intestinal permeability.
  • Learn strategies to monitor both symptomatic remission and mucosal healing in IBD care.
  • Understand when to refer to specialists and what the pitfalls are of unintegrated care.
