Constipation:  Evidence-based guidelines  for naturopathic treatment  and evaluation
 

Constipation  can affect up  to 36% of children,  costs $3.9 billion a year  in the U.S. in health services,  and is a frequent cause of referrals  to gastroenterologists. In this webinar,  Dr. Erika Krumbeck will discuss medical causes, associated serious conditions, red flags, necessary labs and imaging, and natural and pharmaceutical treatments  of constipation in children and infants.

 

Participants  will be able  to:

  1. Define  the criteria  for functional  constipation in children  and infants.

  2. Identify  and rule out  organic (non-functional)  causes of constipation, and  to choose appropriate imaging and  laboratory studies to confirm the diagnosis.

  3. Identify  common medical  conditions which  are frequently associated  with or exacerbated by constipation.

  4. Be  able  to implement  various naturopathic  strategies, utilizing the therapeutic  order, to effectively treat and prevent constipation.

  5. Be  able  to counsel  patients on the  safety and evidence  behind the commonly used  OTC and natural laxatives.

Dr.  Erika  Krumbeck,  ND is founder  and owner of Montana  Whole Health. She received  her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine  from Bastyr University and is a licensed  physician in the state of Montana. Prior to  her medical training she studied visual arts  and biology at Gonzaga University where she graduated with  Magna Cum Laude distinction. Dr. Krumbeck has specialized training  in treating chronic conditions in children using safe, gentle and effective natural remedies.
