Webinar Description
75% of those with chronic viral hepatitis are unaware of their infection. (CDC 2009) These patients present with vague complaints of chronic fatigue, joint pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, etc. Is chronic hepatitis C in your DDX? This webinar is a mini-course in hepatology: how to work up and rule out chronic viral hepatitis and provide the best conventional and naturopathic management of patients with chronic hepatitis C.  Dr. Patrick will discuss the efficacy and side effects of pharmaceuticals (ribivarin, peg interferon, and the new protease-inhibitors) for chronic hepatitis C as well as the specifics of a naturopathic approach.  Dr. Patrick will also discuss the use of integrative solutions for managing difficult patient cases.

Goals and Objectives
  1. Identify appropriate lab tests to diagnose both evidence of and staging for chronic hepatitis C infection.
  2. Discuss strategies for determining when standard treatment is indicated and when naturopathic approaches may be sufficient.
  3. Managing co-morbid conditions associated with hepatitis C, including steatohepatitis, autoimmune conditions, hepatic encephalopathy, and cirrhosis.
  4. Review naturopathic prevention and treatment for the above conditions.
