Course Overview
Uncontrolled diabetes creates microvascular complications in the kidneys, eyes and nerves and many diabetic patients develop one or more of these serious conditions. Cellular oxidative damage due to elevated glucose levels is the key etiological factor. It is very helpful for physicians treating diabetic patients to be fully cognizant of how to recognize, diagnose and treat these complications. This lecture will examine the general etiology of damage and then discuss each type of complication as well as the conventional and evidence based naturopathic protocols beneficial for prevention and treatment.

Biography:
Mona Morstein, ND is recognized as an expert on pre-diabetes and diabetes, and also specializes in gastroenterology and hormonal disorders. Dr. Morstein was Chair of the Nutrition Department, Gastroenterology academic faculty, and clinical faculty in the out-patient medical teaching clinic at SCNM for 11 years. She returned to full time private practice in 2013. She speaks at numerous medical conferences each year and has even created her own, very well-received conferences: Comprehensive Diabetes Seminar and the Insulin Intensive Seminar. She has a free insulin app out, both for Android and Apple phones, called “The Low Carb Insulin Dosing App” and has also created the supplement “Diamend,” which is the most comprehensive diabetic supplement on the market. Dr. Morstein is a member of the Arizona Diabetes Coalition. Dr. Morstein owns NaturopathicChat, the email list of the profession, was awarded the AANP's "The President Award" in 2012, and was given “The Most Outstanding Physician” award in 2014 by the SCNM student body.
