Presentation Description:
As physicians, we have an eclectic set of tools to help a variety of individuals. Our therapies have bridged hundreds of years from homeopathics to IV nutrition to pharmacotherapy. But at this time, we find ourselves at an interesting crossroad. How do we continue to fuse our traditional roots with ongoing new scientific understanding of gene expression and disease?  What are the best tools for these new discoveries and how can we be more specific?  Throughout this session we will explore the basics of phenotypical expression and how methylation can alter physiology and thus disease expression.  It will provide insight to when therapy is appropriate, when it should be discontinued, and in some cases when it could be harmful. Current supportive literature and cases studies will be shared to enhance best practices and case management. Additionally, the session will focus on the most important enzymes that are essential to understand and treat chronic diseases. This session will emphasize targeted and individualized support by way of pharmacotherapy, pharmacognosy, homeopathy, nutrition, and lifestyle support by way of web based lecture and case based learning.

Goals and Objectives
  • 1. Explain the role of methylation on phenotypical expression of various disease states.
    2. Identify physiological symptoms that may suggest lower or higher methylation status.
    3. Identify one key enzyme that regulates each of the following: Catecholamine degradation, hormone regulation and immune regulation.
    4. Chose two pharmacotherapy agents that assist with histamine regulation.
