Discover the hidden impacts of recreational substances on heart health in this captivating lecture! While the cardiovascular dangers of tobacco are widely recognized, this session dives deep into the heart effects of other popular substances including caffeine, cannabis, alcohol, entheogens, opioids, and stimulants. We'll explore both the prescription and illicit forms of opioids and stimulants, unraveling their complex interactions with cardiovascular health. Our discussion will be enriched with insights drawn from a variety of research methods, including human observational studies, clinical trials, population studies, and meta-analyses. Join us as we unveil the intricate connections between recreational substance use and cardiovascular health, guided by the latest and most comprehensive data available.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1)     Understand specific cardiovascular health effects of recreational substances including cannabis, alcohol, and entheogens, including ketamine, psilocybin, LSD, MDMA, and Ayahuasca.

2)     Review literature of cardiac problems of stimulants (prescription and illicit) and opioids (prescription and illicit).

3)     Discuss “safer” consumption levels of key substances.
