ABOUT THIS SONG After 12 years of writing songs to flesh out the Jesus story for my Easter and Christmas programs at Unity of San Luis Obispo, California, I had all but run out of topics that were part of the story, which so many know. Something turned my attention to the manger upon which baby Jesus lay. Since I view the world as multidimensional and have no trouble giving consciousness to rocks, trees, animals, elements, etc. it was no leap for me to start thinking from the perspective of the straw. It most certainly has a story...and it is a beautiful one...out in the sun amidst the field of gold, lived the holy grain, or so the story goes... The song turned into a very inspiring song with a lilting melody and feel that pulls me back to my lives as a wandering minstrel in medieval England...yes, I remember them quite well.It is a ballad, a story, with a multi-tiered message. Show up. Trust the moment and act upon the guidance as you never know where it might lead you. And, you and I do not know our full power, presence, and purpose yet...we just might be the one chosen to make the difference for the masses. So, the invitation is to show with a kind of expectant knowing that ever event is special, filled with the potential for something magnificent, that may not reveal itself until you have committed and have taken good faith leaps into it already. ...he never thought he's leave the field...he never thought he'd cradle the boy...he never let one limitation...rob him of inherent joy... Set your purpose on the full moon's eve and move forth knowing that something remarkable will manifest on the adventure when you least expect it...enjoy the ballad... |
SONG LYRICS: BALLAD OF THE LITTLE STRAW Out in the sun midst a field of gold Lived a holy grain So the story goes Strong and tall fragrant, too It was cut one eve When the moon was new Into a cart o’er the dusty roads To Bethlehem the straw did go Found its way to a manger where It was placed with gentle loving care Then a man and a woman Arrived one night They had no place to go They gathered and blessed And laid the straw Into a manger where They placed their child fair To the child’s weight Did the straw respond It gave support kept the Child warm Soon it glowed as if Receiving light Till in radiance it lit the night There was something about That little boy That brought this straw Consuming joy The more it felt the more it gave In this exchange a foundation was laid This is a life of love and sharing This is a life that grows This is a life where We never know Just where the path will go Be like the straw and go He never thought he’d Leave the field He never thought he’d Cradle the boy He never let one limitation Rob him of inherent joy So never think you’re Unimportant For you might be the Chosen one To lead this world Into the future Birth the light in someone This is a life of love and sharing This is a life that grows This is a life where We never know Just where the path will go Be like the straw and go Out in the sun midst a field of gold Lived a holy grain So the story goes Strong and tall fragrant, too It was cut one eve When the moon was new © 2003.Music for Every Soul.
